According to two reports published today, Apple will be launching their new iPhone on October 14th in the U.S along with several other countries on the roster.

The news comes from Boy Genius Report in a post where they cite Macotakara’s report which claims that the next iPhone will be launched in selected markets on October 14th.

The October 14th release date seems quite likely to us, especially in the wake of Apple’s official announcement regarding their media event, which will be held on October 4th at their own campus in Cupertino. The event invite image has “Let’s Talk iPhone” written on it which, well, very obviously suggests that we’ll be seeing iPhone-related hardware announcements, reportedly in a keynote from new CEO Tim Cook himself.

Just a note that the first batches of Apple products usually have a flaw or two – iPhone 3: screen dimming, switches (vibrate and volume) and home button broke easily – iPhone 4: antenna issues resulting in in dropped calls. Might be best to wait a month and see what comes out in consumer reports.

As the world waits for Apple to release the iPhone 5, Reuters reported that  an 8GB iPhone refresh is on it’s way; most likely the easiest way to be rid of the stockpile of iPhone 4 parts much like what they did with the 8GB iPhone 3GS refresh. According to two anonymous sources “with knowledge of the matter,” an unnamed Korean manufacturer has already begun producing parts for a cheaper, 8GB version of the smartphone, slated to launch within the next few weeks.

Yesterday Scribd, an Online document hosting service, launched an iPhone app that aims at enhancing reading on smartphone screens. The app removes external links, ads and other clutter from articles to make it easier and more pleasant to read and users can scrolling up and down or swipe right to left see the next page of content. The pinching feature has also been implemented whereas the user uses a pinching gesture on the screen to zoom in and out. The text auto-rewraps for ease of use and font clarity.

Google beat Wall Street estimates and set a new record for revenue in the second quarter of 2011 boosting its share price by double digits.

The search giant increased it’s revenue by 32% (+$2.88B) earning $9.03 billion in Q2 2011. 69% of the company’s revenue came from Google-owned sites ($6.23 billion) and 28% of Google’s revenue came from AdSense ($2.48 billion). Of that, 54% of total revenues were a result of international business. Google now employs 28,768 people full-time, up from 26,316 in Q1 2011.

However, Google’s overhead is exploding. The company’s costs grew from $4.46 billion to $6.15 billion — an increase of 39% from Q2 2010 to Q2 2011. Nonetheless, investors are very happy with Google’s numbers, with shares rising by 11% (58 points) in after hours trading.

Google’s new social networking platform Google+ currently lacks a verification system for user accounts. For most users it’s not really that big of an issue but for someone famous, be it Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg or a Hollywood celebrity there might be whereas they are no in control of what impostors say or share. Early adopters of the service, such as Alyssa Milano, have been using Twitter to semi-validate their accounts by posting links on their verified Twitter to their Google+ profile. The same was true when Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg made his Google+ debut. No one knew if that was really him until tech blogger Robert Scoble text messaged Zuckerberg personally to confirm.

That’s all fine for now seeing how it’s in closed beta but it is a definite necessity to establish a verification system.

Here are some confirmed accounts for everyone to add

There are a slue of others that have profiles but no on has confirmed whether it is actually them or not.
If you have come across any others leave a post and we’ll add it to the list!
