The update is small and focuses on several small bugs — only 17.4 MB via Software Update and 79.29 MB from Apple’s site.

Fixes

Mac OS X 10.7.1 — With OS X Lion Update 10.7.1 (Client), Apple calls out only five specific fixes, and while there are undoubtedly a few others,

  1. Address an issue that may cause the system to become unresponsive when playing a video in Safari. Unfortunately it doesn’t address the video freezes that users of recent iMacs have encountered under Lion
  2. Resolve issue that may cause system audio to stop working when using HDMI or optical audio out
  3. Improve the reliability of Wi-Fi connections
  4. Resolve an issue that prevents transfer of your data, settings, and compatible applications to a new Mac running OS X Lion
  5. Resolve an issue in which an admin user account could be missing after upgrading to OS X Lion

If you have one of the just-released MacBook Air or Mac mini models, there’s a different update for you, the OS X Lion 10.7.1 Update for MacBook Air and Mac mini 2011 (Client) (68.86 MB). Along with the previously mentioned fixes, it includes fixes that:

  1. Resolve an issue where MacBook Air may boot up when MagSafe Adapter is attached
  2. Resolve an issue causing intermittent display flickering on MacBook Air
  3. Resolve an issue that causes the SD card slot in Mac mini to run at reduced speed with SD and SDHC media

A lot of people are wondering what iMessage is and what it’s all about.

iMessage is basically Apple’s version of BBM (seperate from BBM because iPhones do not have pins or access to Blackberry Internet Services).

Redmond Pie’s Steven Chi has created a really intuitive video to showcase the workings of iMessage for iOS 5.

New Lion features include:

  • System-wide support for full screen apps
  • Mission Control, an overview of everything running on the Mac
  • In-built App Store
  • Launchpad, a new home for apps
  • A completely redesigned Mail app

Like Snow Leopard, Lion does not support PowerPC-based Macs (e.g., Power Macs, PowerBooks, iBooks, iMacs (G3-G5), all eMacs, plus pre-February 2006 Mac minis and the Power Mac G4 Cube); it also doesn’t support Intel Core Duo based Macs.
