Although MuscleNerd said it could be done it can’t. The Jailbreak is tethered but Apple has added a crash loop meaning whenever you try to launch an application it automatically crashes. So until there is a fix for this stay away from the jailbreak. We will be updating everyone once it’s back up!

Facebook confirmed yesterday they have added George “GeoHot” Hotz to the payroll but haven’t commented as to what he will be doing for them. For those of you who don’t know “GeoHot”  he is the infamous iPhone hacker/jailbreaker/unlocker and has also been sued by Sony over “allegedly” hacking the Sony PS3 to install custom applications and play burned games. In 2009 at the age of 19 he released Blackra1n and Blacksn0w. Blackra1n jailbroke all Apple devices from the iPhone 2G, iPod all the way to the iPhone 3GS and Blacksnow provided a lifetime unlock to iPhone 2G owners. Not bad for a guy 3 weeks after his 20th birthday.

How did this come about?
The whole debate over whether or not he was employed by Facebook came from a YouTube video (see below) featuring Joshua Hill, a member of the Chronic-Dev Team also known as P0sixninja. Hill challenged Hotz to find a bootrom exploit for the iPad 2 (which would allow the Dev Team to jailbreak the iPad 2) and this news quickly spread on the Twitter network. In the video Hill said that Hotz was mad at him because he doesn’t want that much attention and backed out of the challenge to work at his day job… at Facebook. However, for people who know Hotz work, he is probably working on it behind the scene as he’s not one to back down from a challenge.

A lot of people are wondering what iMessage is and what it’s all about.

iMessage is basically Apple’s version of BBM (seperate from BBM because iPhones do not have pins or access to Blackberry Internet Services).

Redmond Pie’s Steven Chi has created a really intuitive video to showcase the workings of iMessage for iOS 5.

Well here we have it, the first facial recognition app for the iPhone 4. I have to say I’ve tried it and I’d rather stick with the lock code method but I’m sure there are many people out there that will just love this application. This is only available on a jailbroken phone, if you are not jailbroken don’t worry!  Jailbreak instructions are at the bottom of this post.

RecognizeMe is the first ever Facial Recognition for iOS. It works with all iOS 4.x+, and sits on the passcode lock screen. RecognizeMe uses the Front Facing camera on the iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4th Gen (will also work with the iPad 2 whenever a jailbreak is found!) To set up the application for facial recognition you simply train using the included App, making sure to have even light on your face, configure a lockscreen passcode, and you’re good to go! Threshold for verification is adjustable to allow for more or less strict verification, and you can add/remove biometric sets at any time.

Here is a video to see it in action

Jailbreak your iOS (select your iOS version)

Don’t know what version you are running? To locate this information navigate to Settings -> General -> About and your iOS version will be present in the list.
