Hi, just wondering why when I upgraded using this method I cant get internet via 3G now? only on wifi.

    Thanks

  2. Tech Tête says:

Perhaps your carrier requires you to setup the APN data because it’s a general release and not a carrier release. What carrier are you using?
If you know the carrier APN data here is the input method.

    1. Touch the Menu key
    2. Touch Settings
    3. Touch Wireless & networks
    4. Touch Mobile networks
    5. Touch Access Point Names

    Input the information there.
If you don’t know the APN data either google it or write back and I’ll have a look.
I assume since no one else has posted that it’s not common but I may be wrong.
If anyone else has it would be helpful for them to post their work arounds too.

  3. suts says:

yes, you are right, settings not right after upgrade, as follows for optus

    settings
    wireless & network
    mobile networks
access point names, left hand menu button, add new APN
    NAME optus internet
    APN yesinternet
PROXY though to MMS on NOT SET
    MCC 505
    MNC 02
    AUTHENTICATION TYPE pap
    APN Type internet

Do i need to have my phone rooted?

  8. Tech Tête says:

No, this should not require you to have your phone rooted as it is a direct update from Google. The update file has been downloaded from Tech Tête over 1,000 times with no issues during the update process. If you do have any issues though please post here and we can definitely find you a solution.

  9. Andrei says:

  11. sachin says:

when i upgrade my phone to Gingerbread 2.2.3 do i lose any data… or do i have all the notes and contacts in my phone ?

    • Tech Tête says:

You would most likely lose your data as it’s reinstalling the ROM. Just make sure you have contacts, notes, etc backed up on your PC before you do the update

  12. Ramesh Mahat says:

I have samsung galaxy s GT-I9000 , I couldnot use yahoo messenger for video & voice call from my device if you have any solution please post the solution.., Thank you.
    Ramesh

    • Tech Tête says:

I’ve heard of lots of issues with Yahoo Messenger lately. This update targets Google chat apps more than Yahoo. You could try deleting the Yahoo app from the phone and re-installing it. Could also be a setting that is off as well. If that doesn’t work please describe your issue in a bit more detail so we can tell what exactly is going on.

  13. Peter says:

Hi, I tried this on my Galaxy S i9000 from optus, all went well but when i retyped the settings in for my AP as described earlier it still wont go on the internet unless wifi is turned on. I have the following under Access Points, Optus Zoo, optus internet and optus MMS.

The optus zoo is enabled by default but i cant get any net access.

    Any ideas?

    • Tech Tête says:

Try each of the following to see which one works:

      Password: (blank)
      MMSC: mmsc.optus.com.au:8002

“This is a complete guide for a novice user on how to get the latest Gingerbread 2.3.3 for galaxy S i9000 International version. Please Stop if you have a different version of galaxy S…”

    >> What does it mean international version? How can i check that? Does it have any special list of the product codes?

    • Tech Tête says:

It is a universal version (also known as stock version) that works on any Galaxy S meaning it’s the official release from Samsung not a version put out by your carrier.

      Key differences:
      1. Your carrier has not added any software packages(their logo, tracking software, carrier applications)
      2. You will be running the official version and simply just need to input your carriers APN settings (if necessary) which is easy and can be found via your carrier’s website or Google

There is no danger in using this, this is actually the cleanest version you can get.

  15. Ruslan says:

Thanks a lot for the reply! Will try now :-)

    • Tech Tête says:

Not a problem! Let us know if you need anything!
If you need to enter your APN settings (some carriers do and some don’t) refer to the first reply for instructions.
      Enjoy!

      • Ruslan says:

Thank you once again for the tutorial. Everything works perfectly ))
APN settings are not a problem for me :-)

  16. gus says:

    2.3.3. installed,
lost all my contacts, messages and games.
    no longer have swype.
only 3 pages instead of 7 in apps

  17. thats very annoying, i use the mobile AP which is in froyo everyday and this doesnt have it

  18. thedodgyone says:

I dont’t mind if the apn doesnt work, i don’t even have 3g internet :)

  19. Kiel says:

Works a dream. Just had one drama tho. Was stuck on “set partion” all i had to do was to remove usb, shut odin down and reset phone into download mode again and it worked!!!!
Reppin 2.3! Hells yeah works a charm.

Oh and optus users go here to get all your settings (MMS,INTERNET)…

    http://optusau.wdsglobal.com/mainPage.html

    Enjoy.

  22. Hassan says:

Your software has formatted my Handset software and then failed the update. I have handset with no software. I can’t switch-on even. What to now? Please suggest something… :(

  23. MartinD says:

Will this method work for the latest I9000XXJVQ ROM which i assume is the latest “clean” Samsung international firmware?

    • Tech Tête says:

I can only guarantee that this works with the files and software linked in this post. You are welcome to try, post your findings and if not you can use the method in this post to restore.
Just make sure you create a backup of your contacts.

  24. iphonefamily says:

  25. Bigyan k says:

Hi, recently I have purchased Samsung Galaxy S and now i want to upgrade to Gingerbread 2.3.3. But I m still not sure how to install it. And could you able to confirm how to install the same.

Will there be any specific problem while installing or after installation of Gingerbread 2.3.3. Above you have mentioned about APN data, but how and from i will get it.

Will you plz help me out.

  26. MartinD says:

How do i tell if my I9000 is an “international” version?

  27. Kristy says:

How long does it usually take after we hit start? The last message in the message box says “setup connection” and it hasn’t done anything since. Do I just unplug the usb/phone and it will be on there? Also, I only had android 2.1 eclair on there to begin with, we didn’t need to have froyo first before gingerbread did we? I was going to put froyo on there first but I cannot connect my kies anymore and I dida factory reset etc. Any help would be appreciated. :-)

    • Tech Tête says:

Reboot your phone while still plugged in and it should work.
If not make sure it’s plug into the rear of your computer and not the front USB ports or a USB hub.

  28. Kristy says:

Nope that didn’t work as it hadn’t even finished installing but I had to remove the usb, take the battery out and put it back in. Go in download mode again and repeat all the steps involved except download the files from the links you gave us and then it installed properly and now my phone is working. Thank you very much, your a legend for posting an easy to do guide. :-)

  29. andy says:

hi, a problem appeared, i can not recieve international calls!!!! a message say problem with android.com
    Any ideas??? thanks.

  30. Willing Tan says:

    Hi!

Thanks for your post. I think its me, but do you know why I can’t download Odin3? I mean i get to download it, but the file size is either 1KB or 0kb (should be 400+kb). And everytime to try to unzip, it says: “The archive is either in unknown format or damaged?”

Do you know why? or where I can download the complete file?

    Thanks!

  31. Confused says:

Okay so I’m a complete novice in this. I’m a first time android user and i just bought my samsung galaxy s 19000. I want to get this version but i have no idea what bootloaders and rooting is. Can you please explain it. Also, i heard certain complications can arise such as wifi not working etc by installing this new version. Whats the truth in that?
    Thanks

  35. Allen says:

Hi, I just want to say, thank you for saving my phone. I was on v2.2.1 and my phone would not get passed the Samsung welcome screen. I tried flashing the firmware again 4 times without success. I then used your file to upgrade to Gingerbread v2.3.3 and it was a success. I was not happy that I would lose my photo’s and video of my 2 month old daughter, but amazingly, they were still accessible on my phone after the upgrade and after i had previously done a factory reset!!.

Thanks for this tool, much appreciated.

    Allen
